Today we visited Rehua Marae which is on Springfield Road. We went with the Kapa Haka group. We are all members of the Kapa Haka group and some of us attend Whakahuihui on Friday as well.
When we arrived a lady from the Tangata Whenua welcomed us, and Liana called back our greeting. We thought she was amazing. We took our shoes off before we went inside the Whare Nui, which is the big meeting house. We had a powhiri to welcome us onto the marae, and then we had morning tea in the Whare Kai.
Rawiri was very pleased to meet the cat who was prowling around the outside of the Whare Kai.
We went back into the Whare Nui and Matua Bill told us all about the carvings and beautiful decorations. Then the Kapa Haka group performed. Matua Bill said we did such a wonderful job the hair stood up on the back of his neck! We were so, so proud.
A huge thank you to Janette, Matua Bill, Matua John, Liana and Maureen for helping us to visit the marae, to the wonderful, friendly people at Rehua who made us so welcome.
